About Me
Vicki Whiting is a national leader in newspaper in education training and curriculum development. She is the creator and editor of the internationally syndicated, NIE feature, Kid Scoop, which appears in nearly 400 newspapers and has a circulation of 8.5 million. An estimated 50,000 teachers use Kid Scoop in their classrooms each week. She was the one of the first people to develop interactive youth and family content for newspaper websites, including a searchable database of lessons that use the newspaper as a teaching tool. Her web content is now part of 50 newspaper websites. As the corporate NIE consultant to Freedom Communications she has grown teacher participation in their NIE programs by more than 1,000% and led the company in raising more than $3 million per year for educational services at their 28 newspapers. Whiting has also won first place awards for NIE curriculum projects from the NAA, SNPA, CNPA, NNA and other state press associations. She is a regular speaker and presenter at state and national newspaper meetings. She has written curriculum for The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle, USGA, Ringling Bros. and more.
