BIOGRAPHY
TV Producer & Direct-to-Consumer Marketer, Kathy Kelly, has over 25 years experience in all aspects of media communications, from the production of 30-second commercials and 1/2-hour TV shows to full-length feature films and live events. Her roles have ranged from executive producer, producer and director through positions responsible for the marketing and sales of the final product.
With a career that started as a video journalist at the then-start-up cable network, Cable News Network (CNN) in Atlanta, the past sixteen years have been in direct-to-consumer (D2C) marketing, engaging in product and offer development, show production, e-commerce and new media marketing (Web 2.0).
Kathy headed up the creative and production department for Los Angeles-based Williams Television Time, the country’s largest Direct Response agency and pioneer in D2C television marketing, before establishing her own company, Kathy Kelly Productions in 1994 -- a marketing and production company hybrid specializing in direct response television commercials, infomercials, home video product videos, broadcast programs and corporate presentations. In addition to video production, her company also produces live events, develops accompanying websites along with new media campaigns for additional e-commerce consumer sales.
In 2005, Kathy established the Winery Music Awards, a live, experiential marketing event featuring rising independent music artists and designed to attract the fastest growing segment of the wine consumer market, 21-34 year olds. Originated in Paso Robles, and dubbed as “Wine Country’s Answer to Sundance,” plans are to expand the event to wine regions throughout the US and beyond.
In 2008, Kathy was recognized as one of the “Top 50 Women in Business” by the Pacific Coast Business Times for her work in conceiving, producing and marketing the Winery Music Awards. She was also the first producer on the central coast to provide a live web cast of a music event with her webcast of the 2007 Winery Music Awards Final Competition.
Over decades of experience, Kathy’s Direct-to-Consumer work has included projects for Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Turner Classic Movies, Capitol Records, MGM, Kal Kan, Body by Jake, Johnson & Johnson, Toshiba, Amgen, Gemstar, Hoover, Fitness Quest, Braun, T-Fal, Conair, Murad, GNC, Motorola and many other national and international brand marketers. Her work has been seen or broadcast all over the world.
Kathy's direct response work has won NIMA and CAPEL awards and her website work has won a WEBBY Award. An artistic video work of hers titled, “Look At The Clock” was featured at the Museum of Contemporary Art at Boston’s famed “First Night” and in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Film & Video Festival.
Her most recent project is the conception, development and communications of the Vineyards Growing Veggies™ initiative at Steinbeck Vineyards & Winery, an extension of Urban Farming’s INCLUDE FOOD™ when planting and landscaping. Urban Farming will be the official non-profit organizational beneficiary to receive a portion of the proceeds from sponsorship and ticket sales of the Winery Music Awards as it expands to wine regions worldwide.
Kathy was co-founder and program director for the Atlanta Producer’s Association (APA) and the New England Producer’s Association (NEPA). In both associations she developed educational programs to help producers stay on top of the fast moving technological advancements.
