Netgear DS524 - 24 Port 10/100 Dual Speed Stackable Hub (Free)

I have a Netgear DS524 - 24 Port 10/100 Dual Speed Stackable Hub free for the taking. I replaced it because it was making noise. I think it is just a bearing in one of the fans but given the closet where I have it, I didn't want to take a chance with a fan going out and taking out my network. It works and is free to a good home.…See More

About Me
I am the atypical engineer with a liberal arts background, a multi-disciplinary person with work experience in several domains: telecom, datacom, computer engineering, systems design, organizational development, entrepreneurship, investing, corporate governance, writing, public speaking, education/training, and issue advocacy. I complement my technical background with additional degrees in Economics and Government. I am a good communicator and skilled writer capable of bridging the technical and non-technical worlds.
In 1997 I was a member of the founding team of Cerent Corporation. At Cerent I helped manage the relationship with our venture capitalists, specified the software architecture and hardware platform, designed multiple subsystems for a 14-processor fiber-optic telecommunications multiplexer. Also, as the principal engineer with complete system knowledge, I integrated the system and was the engineering representative sent to key customer sites when an issue turned critical. As a hiring manager, I recruited the initial software team and participated in the hiring of over 200 employees. In 1999 we sold Cerent to Cisco for $7.2 Billion.

An open letter to those who would game FourSquare

Posted on January 27, 2011 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

This is an open letter to VinoPinot (aka VinoP):

I need to reach out to you as your behavior on FourSquare is having a negative impact on the FourSquare community. I've heard 4 people complain about your checkins and your timing could not be worse. Yesterday, I presented to the annual board meeting of the Sonoma Valley Visitor's Bureau regarding the…

Virgin Launches iPad-only Magazine

Posted on November 30, 2010 at 11:02am 0 Comments

Today Richard Branson's Virgin empire launched a new iPad-only magazine called Project. I downloaded the app and purchased issue 1 for $2.99. After a slow and interrupted download, I was able to view the issue.

I wasn't sure what to expect as I didn't like that I had to download…

Posted on April 2, 2010 at 10:00pm 0 Comments

Hello Wired Sonomans,

I'm really excited about how the Shared Workspace is shaping up and we have some first-rate architects, facility, color and lighting planners helping us out. As you all know building out the new space is not going to be cheap as we are trying to create a quality environment that will not only serve everyone's needs but be a place where people will want to spend time.

One of the ideas that I'm putting out for consideration is…

Hi, Chip. Thanks for the welcome! Winergy loves to share on the subject of the fun we are having with our model - what's the process/venue/best practice with this group?

Hi Chip. Got your email re. City Council meeting on Wednesday. Unfortunately I have an appointment for this day and can't attend. Today also the Press Democrat had an abbreviated version of the NYT article. It mentioned that the expansion of broad band access is written into Federal Stimulus Act. Maybe a discussion contribution to the meeting.

Thanks, Chip. I met you at the first Wired Sonoma event. I'm excited to be back. I was out of town and haven't been to other events but I'll be looking forward to the next one.

Are you sure you want this mug up there? I thought we were trying to attract new members not scare them away :)

Thanks for reaching out on Twitter Conference!

Chip. Is there anywhere on this site for posting "event feedback"?
Maybe under events there could be a blog? I heard your Google Docs
training at my lab was a great success. Glad my student, Matt, could
lend a hand. He will "no doubt" be a force in the coming years in media.
Anyway, if there is a feedback loop, point me there. Nice mixer tonight.
Let's try to find a "Summer Venue" out doors with room to move. Nice job all around!

I learned of this site through Dennis Keohane and Dave Sickert. The local focus is great. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Great site!

Great work on this site. It is long overdue given the talent pool in the Valley.
I am glad to be part of it and will be an active contributor. I look forward to your visit at the High School in the near future with an eye towards community training. ALl the best. PH

Chip, I'm missing something here; are there no comments on the meeting, is there a forum I don't know about? This is the first social site I've ever joined. Am I that clueless?
