Looking for a Blog Type that handles many Participants?

Wordpress is pretty much the best blog out there and you can create as many users as you like and assign them roles -  editor etc...This website is powered by Ning which is what we are all doing here, creating separate blog posts,  but NIng is no longer free, wordpress is free and you can install it on your own web server. Greg do you know anything about Boonex?  Dolphin 7
Ultimately this site could be allowed in China..

I am also thinking about BuddyPress?

My biggest concern is that China  sees the platform as a threat not our particular website?

Oh is Wordpress banned in China? I was not aware. Yes - years ago I installed Dolphin - it is a Facebook Community Builder knock off (like NING) and really requires a dedicated server to run. Hosting this on an inexpensive shared web server would not work if you attract a lot of users. Not sure how big you want to get or what your purpose is?

btw - yahoo groups and google groups is a great way to build a community. If I was starting a company today I would probably do it all in Google with Google + as it is free and does a whole lot of stuff - you can segment users, video chat, phone call, text message and post to blogs .....they have made it a no brainer - just register a domain name and point it toward your google + URL (Done)
